A date with Ainsley!

This week Hudson had a play date with a beautiful little girl this week, Ainsley (3 1/2 months), and for the first time, they were both awake! Ainsley immediately tried to hold his hand, although Hudson thought a better place for it would be in his mouth. Hudson had a great time making sure all of her new toys had his slobber on them before he left.

Hudson is 5 months old!

Where is time going? Hudson turned 5 months old last week. He continues to do great. We started solids a few weeks ago and he is loving the real food. He is up to eating about the equivalent of 2 jars of food a day plus rice and opens his mouth and says "ahh" each time he sees the spoon! He is also really close to sitting up and starting to scoot on the floor. He is working hard at getting his knees under that belly to crawl so it won't be long! We have lots of babyproofing to do! He also is getting a bit of stranger anxiety. Sometimes with someone new, his lip turns under and he just starts crying! It is hard not to laugh at that cute face even when he is crying! This past week, he discovered his tongue. Many times when we look at him he has it sticking out....Here are some pictures from the past week. We went to St Louis for my 10 year high school reunion. Have a great week!

the Spirited eater

This is a video of Hudson sucking on a piece of melon in a cool little mesh bag holder we got from Sheri, an RN I used to work with. Thanks Sheri! He obviously loves it! This shows a mood opposite of the last video we posted!

The Cruise!

We just returned from our Carribean Cruise! We had a blast. It was a great to celebrate my grandmother's life with the whole family. Hudson LOVED the beach and the water. He did so great on the trip - from the plane to the boat. He took long afternoon naps by the beach or the pool (mostly with aunt dana) and went to bed in his stroller each night under a blanket just in time for us to have dinner. He was a dream and the highlight of the cruise, being the youngest on board he got quite a bit of attention. He is quite the traveler for a four month old - we figured out he has been to 6 states and 4 countries already! I couldn't pick which pictures to post, so here is a link to some of our favorites.

Hudson's first "meal"

After we got home from our trip last night, we decided it was time to give Hudson some rice. He loved sucking on big chunks of fruit on the cruise - even pineapple! We thought it would take a while for him to get used to eating, but he took to it rather quickly. With each spoonful, we would grab my hand and pull it to his wide open mouth! It was pretty funny. So now we have a new favorite activity!

Preparing to Sail!

This week we had Hudson's Four Month check up! He did really well. He continues to top the chart but is still on it at least (well, besides his HEAD which is over 97%). I think that is the nice way of saying off the chart! He weighs almost 17 lbs (80th percentile) and has grown 3 inches in the last two months to 26 inches (90%). I had to laugh when Dr. Waters was in there for a good 10 minutes before he realized he was there for his 4 month check up and not 6 month check up! Maybe he should have looked at his birthdate before coming in! Hudson even impressed him by rolling over both directions on the exam table for him! He flirted with the nurse too by cooing and giggling at her, well that is before she gave him 4 shots. But he did really well with his shots and didn't even react until the fourth one. Although his leg was covered in numbing cream from me which had pretty much spread all over his leg by the time his shots came because he was moving around so much!
He is still a ball of fun and really happy guy. As the pictures show he is finally growing in some more hair to make up for the major hair loss the past few weeks and add to the thick curl on top of his head ans slight mullet in the back!
After our trip, we will be starting the solid foods (i.e. soupy rice)! We are very excited about that. He is getting ready, John swears he wanted some pizza last night as he stared him down and drooled the whole time he ate! He is taking an interest in us eating, sitting up pretty well and scarfing down so we think he is ready. He gets so excited now when it is time for milk and I can imagine what his excitement will be for the "real" stuff.
The exciting news is that on Sat we leave for Orlando to head on the Carribean Cruise! We will be gone 8 nights and somehow Hudson's bag is bigger than either of ours yet his clothes are still pretty small! But we are ready for a vacation and thrilled to have some family time.

Have a great week!
